New York Nursing License and Renewals: What You Need to Know

Things to know about getting your New York State nursing license

  • No temporary license
  • Takes 4-6 weeks to receive
  • All applicants must complete training on identification and report of child abuse
  • New York is a NURSYS participating state
  • The State Pool Exam is license qualifying
  • If you're looking to stay in the area long term, the New York nursing license expires every three years

Documents needed for getting your New York State nursing license

  • Completed application - Notraized
  • Verification of all licenses held, current or expired
  • Verification of current active license
  • Transcripts - received directly from nursing school
  • 2 hours Child Abuse coursework or training
  • Infection Control Course (every 4 years)

Processing fees to be aware of when getting your New York State nursing license:

  • $73 to get your license
  • Inactive or lapsed license must contact the board to request application and fees
  • RN can walk through the board to reinstate - ($10.00 in addition to renewal fee for letter)
